Styling - Why Not Make it Easier for Yourself?
It is said that a bad workman blames his tools. A professional
knows which are the right tools, how to use them, and the need
for practice.
Don't make it more difficult for yourself. Some styling effects are almost impossible to achieve if you use the wrong brush or heat styling tool. So why not make it easier for yourself and make
sure you find out which are the right tools for your style and
how to use them.
Again, at Combers we will advise you.
Some stylists are reluctant to offer advice but are really enthusiastic when you ask. Hairdressers are becoming more professional. Professionals care about their clients. If they are your hairdresser, they really care about how your hair looks every day of the year.
Heat and Styling
In almost every aspect of life an excess of anything is harmful. This is certainly true when using heat on your hair. If you use a blow-dryer, heated rollers, tongs, or any form of concentrated heat for drying and styling, use a lotion that contains a heat protective ingredient. This is much better than just an ordinary setting lotion.
Most products that contain a heat protector will state so on the pack. Many styling lotions contain ingredients to protect and help you style your hair more easily.
Combs and Brushes
Did you know that excessive combing and brushing does not improve the condition of your hair? It can actually damage it.
When choosing a brush or comb, its really best to use the type used by your designer. They prefer saw-cut or wide toothed combs as these are less likely to tear the hair. Your brush should be easy to clean and have smooth, rounded ends to the bristles.
Never brush hair roughly when it's wet, a comb is much better. Treat your hair gently, don't tug at tangles, use your comb to carefully unknot them. Always start combing your hair from the ends and work towards your head. Especially with long hair. Watch how a top professional hairdresser treats your hair and take note.
The Big News Now is the GHD Ceramic Irons
Ceramic strengtheners - Wonderful if used correctly and with correct protection. GHD ceramic strengtheners are the best at present and have open up a whole new world to our clients with curly or wavy hair. They are only sold in Salons and now advertised on T.V.
Blow-drying
A blow-dryer can be a girl's best friend. But, used incorrectly or with the wrong nozzle, it can become an enemy. You can hard boil an egg with some hair-dryers in under six minutes!
If your hair doesn't require any special styling effect, simply hold your dryer about ten inches from your head, wiggle it from side to side so that no section gets over heated. Start at the back first. This can be the most difficult part to style, so do it before your arms get too tired. Comb through as you dry to avoid tangles. There are now special nozzles for blow drying the more natural-looking curly styles.
When shaping or curling using a dryer, part your hair into sections, treating only one piece at a time. There are also special "sectioning clips" to help you achieve this. Using your styling brush, hold the dryer about six inches away from the head and wave it over the section. Repeat all over the head until dry. Never hold your dryer in one place for longer than a count of three.
Heated Rollers
These are a wonderful invention. In practically no time at all you can give yourself a beautifully curly and bouncy head of hair. When working properly they are thermostatically controlled so they can't get overheated. But, if you have dry and brittle hair don't use them too often and wrap the rollers with tissues before using.
Curling Tongs
The quickest way to curl and shape. But, as with all heated appliances they need to be used with care. Section off your hair, clamp the end of the section in the tongs and roll up. Be very careful not to touch your scalp. Only leave tongs in for a count of three before releasing. Leave the hair to cool down before brushing or combing.
